The train yards

Straight lines do not exist in nature.

Or alternatively, one could say that they only exist in one kind of nature -- human nature.

It is a fascinating rule of thumb that if you see anything, anything at all that is a perfect straight line, it was created by someone.

I find it interesting to explore these straight lines in was that make them stand out to those who may easily not notice them.

In the second photo, for instance, is close to a classical representation of perspective.

Rail lines are fun things. One ran through the field behind our barn on the first farm I was raised on. Up until '89, there'd be a train passing by every week or so - I can't recall there being any kind of schedule to it though, as it was all freight.

Rail is one of those things that I wish hadn't been stripped out of Bruce county -- had they waited about ten years, the days of cheap gas would have ended and rail would have made a lot of sense again. Not to mention the sustainability. The line is now a bike and hiking trail, so at least there is some consolation in this.

Photos were taken at the Aberdeen trainyard in Hamilton, Ontario.
