I found this dandelion in mid-October 2008, several weeks after they all should have been finished flowering.
This was the only yellow flower in a 20 acre field east of the village of Cargill, Ontario.
And since dandelions usually are in large clusters, this was something you don't see very often. In fact, there were many dandelion plants around, but just one flowering.
Even though it was out of season, it didn't seem to stop these small flies (or wasps?) from hanging around, and getting their fill of pollen.
I'm not sure if they would have much chance in pollenating any other dandelions, though!
While many seem to consider these plants weeds, they really are nice looking. I don't think I've ever been convinced of them being weeds, anyways.
