Trapped in your own art

Posted in Photoblog on 2009-05-08 09:28:00 by Rob Porter.

Trapping the shadow of the artist within his or her own work is another slight fascination of mine.

I don't take pictures like this as often as I should. Perhaps I saw this opportunity more interesting, because this tree was so big that my whole shadow could reflect upon it. It is far more interesting to be imprinted upon wood than dirt or grass.

It also reminds me of the Shadow Project, taken up every Hiroshima Day. A haunting artistic exploration of atrocities past, which we have held in Hamilton in past years. I'm hoping someone takes it on this year again in Hamilton, and numerous other communities.

If you have a moment, do read about the Shadow Project. And if you have time, plan to do one this August.

This photo was taken near Lake Agnes, Alberta.
